Last weekend I was visited by my dearest high school friend Bonnie
She moved out of state just after our senior year (about eight years ago) and believe it or not, this was our first "official visit" since then.
Well, unless you count the 18 hour trek to her wedding a few years back
Anyway, a day in DC was on our busy agenda
Living just a few hours and a metro ride away from our Nation's capital,
I am constantly reminded of how blessed we are to be surrounded by so much of our countries history.
Im a bit of a history nerd
Periodically, Justin and I will travel up to Washington DC to take in a new museum or visit the monuments.
Today's adventure?
The National Archives
The Archives house the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, US Constitution as well as the Magna Carta.
Not to mention a museums worth of interesting facts on the Civil War, the amendments, and so much more!
Unfortunately we were not permitted to take photographs once inside the building
Preserving history and all
But I can assure you, standing but a thick pane of glass away from the documents that built our country brought tears to my eyes.
Follow along as we continue to cross items off of our 112 Before 2012 list!

Two years ago, I took the family with me to a five day conference in Washington DC. It was an unbelievable experience to visit so many of the museums. How lucky that you have this near you all the time.
ReplyDeleteYou are very lucky to be so close since you're such a history buff (nerd) :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got to get together with your friend! Such fun!
